Bas Remans is not only known as the base player in bands such as Millionaire and Zornik, he was also involved in album recordings of groups including Vandal X , Geschmacksverstärker & Radio Infinitiy. Moreover, he worked as author/composer/mixer on Millionaire's album ('Paradisiac') (produced by Josh Homme), and was co-producer for Zornik's album 'Crosses' and '4 Million Minutes'.
Koen Buyse is mainly known as the front man of ZORNIK. Since the release of their first single in 2001, Zornik have had more than 11 radio hits, sold more than 100,000 albums, done hundred of gigs, including 4 at Rock Werchter, and received a Mia Award for best rock group and 14 TMF Awards. In addition, he has written and produced music for Scala, among others.
Bas and Koen have known each other for many years and grew up amongst the electric guitars and synthesizers. From a young age, they spent many weekends 'terrorising' the 4-track. Their first band ('Pink Reflections') immediately made it to the finals of Humo's Rock Rally after only a few rehearsals.
Shortly after that, the band members decided to call it a day and part ways. Bas joined Millionaire and Koen set up Zornik Breknov and took part in Humo's Rock Rally again. Immediately after that, he signed a contract with EMI.
In 2004, Koen Buyse and Bas Remans joined forces again to record Zornik's new album 'One-Armed Bandit', for which they went to Malta. Immediately following the recordings, Bas joined Millionaire and Queens of the Stone Age on tour through the USA. It was impossible to combine this with touring with Zornik.
A few years later, they teamed up again for the production of the album 'Crosses'. Once again, Bas played the base on it and helped write the hit-single 'Black Hope Shot Down'. When this album was recorded, there was a break in his schedule, which allowed him to become a permanent member of Zornik. For the album '4 Million Minutes', they were at the mixing table together once again.
The cooperation was such a success that once again, they fancied doing something completely different, just like they had done so many times before during their 4-track sessions. They felt like going back to their roots, which resulted in the spontaneous recording of raw, sleazy, sexy, electronic sessions. This time, they focused even more on electronics and left the deafening guitars for what they were. Nitebytes, which was born soon after that, retired to their Maltese retreat where the recordings escalated to the extent that a complete album was made.
EMI Music Belgium was instantly enthusiastic about the recordings and the sound of Nitebytes. The pumping electrosound in combination with Koen's vocals proved an overnight success. 'OK' is the first single and is now available online. Director/cameraman Jan Vrints is responsible for the relevant music video, which will be on view everywhere from 20 March.
Meanwhile, Starsailor was impressed with Nitebytes's remix of their single 'Tell Me It's Not Over':
