The Mixfitz
16:30 - 18:00 Circus Brussel
The Mixfitz is not just another dj duo. It's two top turntablists - dj Damented (Killa Tactics) and dj Jack (IFC Crew) - putting their heads together, and seamlessly blending their styles of music and mixing. Defying any genres, they deliver a blazing mix of hiphop, electro, dancehall, reggae, dubstep, drum'n'bass, dance, disco, pop & rock on four turntables - but with the technical prowess of champion turntablists and the knowhow of experienced club dj's.
HOW IT ALL STARTED: THE BATTLE DAYS
Damented and Jack met back in the earlier days of turntablism and dj competitions in Belgium. Both avid fans of scratching, they kept running into each other at dj battles in and around the country. They even went head to head in some comps.
Damented started dj’ing in 1994, mixing hiphop and jungle on a pirate radio station in his hometown. He’s also one of the founders of the infamous Killa Tactics crew, a dj collective that took the world by storm in the late 90’s, consequently ranking among the top in national and international battles. Killa Tactics became vice champion at the ITF World Championships in 2001 and 2002. Damented himself boasts an impressive 5 national DMC and ITF titles, and ended his 10 year battle career in style with a victory at DMC Benelux 2008 in Amsterdam.
Jack took it to the tables in 1999 after witnessing ITF Benelux - where Damented became third - at the age of 15. Over the next decade, he entered just about every battle imaginable, and steadily kept himself among the top participants. In 2003, he hooked up with dj’s Cross, Mastafingaz and Swordz, to form IFC (iron Finga Cutz), a next level scratch gang that went on to become ITF European vice champion and finalist at the DMC Team World Championships. Jack’s most recent title is Wax & The City champ 2009, and he’s sworn to keep going until he wins it all.
AND THEN THERE WAS… THE MIXFITZ
But it’s not all about competition. Before all the scratching and turntable trickery comes the music. Both Damented and Jack have been tearing up clubs worldwide, and they shared the decks at more than a few occasions in the past. But then fate brought them together. In 2008, Killa Tactics was asked to perform at Studio Brussel’s Snowcase in the French Alps. When fellow Killa Tactics member Dysfunkshunal cancelled his trip, Damented asked Jack to fill in. Rocking the slopes during the day and the dancefloors at night was such a success, they decided to keep going as a duo. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Over the last two years, The Mixfitz have performed at over a hundred parties and festivals all over the continent, bringing you a mean mashup of all the genres they love, with a touch of turntablism. And they’ve shared the stage with some of the best in the business.
