Double U Jay

14:00 - 15:00 Techno Tokyo

Biography

In a biography you'd expect things like: Having played the guitar all his life....having a background in classical music... . But no such thing here, Double U Jay has no musical background what-so-ever. He just couldn't resist the sheer power and rhythm of techno music.

Inspired by artists such as Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Charles Siegling, Max Walder, Marko Nastic, Dj Murphy, Eric Sneo, Umek, Dj Bone, Derrick May and many more, he bought the necessary hardware and got going. After a while he started to get some bookings, mainly at local parties.

In 2006, the first gigs came up. The Pro-Jekt crew (www.pro-jekt.be) offered him the first opportunities at Koloso and the Pro-Jekt events. He was the only young talent to play at Koloso 5 times, showing he could tackle multiple subgenres of techno. In 2007, other organisations such as Liberty White and Mekanik followed. Two concepts heavily supported by Double U Jay because of their belief in the true techno sound.

The year 2008 brought some major gigs to the ever growing list of references. Evolutionz (NYE 07-08), Bassleader, Laundry Day and the dream of every techno deejay, I Love Techno. Double U Jay was selected by Dave Clarke to open his Red Room at this legendary event. Dave Clarke picked him out of all the contestants of the White Noise contest, stating that his mix told a story and he deserved it. At the age of 22, he has already fulfilled one of his dreams and this encourages him even more to keep on doing his thing.

One of Double U Jay's goals is to keep the true techno-vibe alive. Playing varied sets ranging from funky and melodic Detroit techno, tribal, the occasional jacker and some harder percussive sounds. Effects, scratches, juggling and 3-deck mixing keep the sound fresh. The next step is of course making own tracks. Since he is still a student, it is hard to find the time to do so, but the first tracks will see daylight very shortly.

He still has his whole life ahead of him. There's no doubt that it will be a musical one.
